TechFlow News, June 24: According to four informed sources, Qualcomm (QCOM.O) is in talks with ByteDance to provide chip design services. If the negotiations succeed, ByteDance would become an early customer for Qualcomm’s chip design services business. However, the sources emphasized that negotiations are still ongoing and the outcome remains uncertain. It is unclear whether the discussions will ultimately result in a chip design and manufacturing agreement; ByteDance may also seek other partners. Other details about the chip remain unspecified. One source stated that the discussions involve the design of a video processing unit (VPU), with the goal of commencing mass production by the end of this year. (Jinshi)
