TechFlow News, June 17: According to Axios, sources revealed that the U.S., Iran, and mediators are discussing advancing the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)—originally scheduled for Friday—to as early as Wednesday. If this arrangement proceeds, the MoU will be signed electronically, and its provisions concerning the Strait of Hormuz will enter into effect immediately, allowing the U.S. to finally release the full text of the agreement. Sources indicated that the primary motivation for accelerating the signing is to reopen the Strait of Hormuz earlier than Friday, as both sides have already reached consensus on this issue. Another possible factor is political pressure on the White House to publicly disclose the MoU’s text.
Sources added that even if the signing date changes, delegations from both countries will still hold their scheduled meeting in Switzerland on Friday. Discussions are expected to focus on launching negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program. A senior U.S. government official previously stated that the agreement was electronically signed last Sunday by Trump, Vance, and Kalibaf. However, diplomatic sources claimed no such signing took place. Conversely, another informed source confirmed that the electronic signing has indeed been completed and that a “second signing” will follow. It remains unclear why two signings are required.
