TechFlow News reported that on April 4 local time, a rumor about former President Trump being seriously ill and hospitalized quickly went viral across U.S. social media. In response, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted a rebuttal: “Over this Easter weekend, President Trump has been tirelessly working at the White House and in the Oval Office.” After Trump’s social media account posted a message stating, “The missing pilot has been rescued,” Cheung posted again: “Let those nauseating journalists who question the President’s whereabouts see exactly what President Trump is doing.” The White House also responded to online speculation via its official account: “Whenever President Trump goes 12 consecutive hours without speaking to the press, deranged left-wing individuals instantly fabricate absurd conspiracy theories. (Yet when Biden routinely goes 12 consecutive *days* without speaking to the press, they say nothing.) Don’t worry! President Trump has, in fact, never stopped working.” Additionally, the White House lambasted the account spreading the “Trump hospitalized due to serious illness” rumor as “a weapons-grade moron.” According to reports, on April 4 local time, Trump’s official schedule abruptly listed only “administrative time,” and that morning the White House announced the media term “lid”—indicating the President would not make any public appearances that day. Social media users interpreted the use of “lid,” Trump’s absence from public view, and the subsequent lack of visible official activities as potential evidence that he had been admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for treatment.
