On the evening of October 28, MetaMask announced the launch of the first season of its "MetaMask Rewards" points program.

As a long-standing wallet application widely used since the DeFi era, combined with MetaMask's previous official confirmation of an upcoming token launch, this announcement quickly attracted significant market attention.

This MetaMask Rewards campaign will last 90 days and distribute over $30 million in $Linea tokens. Additionally, accumulated points from this event are highly likely to influence future MetaMask token allocation.

From Wallet to Crypto Financial Hub

The launch of MetaMask's points program is not an isolated event—it coincides with product updates signaling MetaMask’s transformation into a crypto financial center.

As a veteran wallet app, early entrants into the crypto market have likely all used MetaMask, whose familiar fox logo has nearly become synonymous with cryptocurrency itself.

However, as more wallet applications have emerged in recent years, offering constant innovation, this fox has gradually been left behind by the market.

Having missed the NFT, inscription, and MEME market trends, MetaMask is now embracing Perp DEX, returning to the spotlight with a fresh new look.

After updating to the latest version on iOS, users can now find the perpetual contracts option under the central "Trade" tab. Currently supporting up to 40x leverage trading powered by Hyperliquid, the prominent placement clearly indicates that Perp DEX is the flagship feature of this update.

The current MetaMask rewards program supports only mobile participation and does not yet support the web version. iOS users can update MetaMask via the App Store, while Android users must wait for the official release.

After updating, users can access the MetaMask Rewards interface by tapping the "Rewards" tab in the bottom navigation bar and entering a referral code.

Upon entering the activity page, users can link additional addresses to claim historical rewards. MetaMask will provide retroactive rewards for trading activities before October 15—250 points for every $1,250 worth of swaps or cross-chain actions, with a maximum of 50,000 points per address. Users with multiple wallets can rapidly accumulate large point totals through address linking.

In addition to base points from address linking, users can earn points through the following activities:

1. Token Swaps: Conduct token swap transactions using MetaMask—10 points for every $800 traded. Swaps on the Linea network receive double points, and when combined with the 1.5x mobile bonus, users can achieve up to 3x points.

2. Perpetual Contracts: Using MetaMask’s perpetual contract feature, users earn 10 points for every $100 traded upon opening or closing positions.

3. Referral Program: Invite others via your referral link to join the points program. The invited user receives double registration points, and for every 50 points the invitee earns through trading, the referrer receives 10 points.

The campaign also features a user tier system, allowing participants to clearly view their unlocked and pending rewards. As users level up by earning points, they progressively unlock benefits such as time-limited point multipliers and reduced perpetual contract fees.

The Fox’s Transformation Journey Begins

As one of the most widely used legacy wallets, MetaMask has maintained strong reputation in the crypto market. However, missing multiple key market narratives has placed it at risk of being phased out.

Beyond simply improving usability and experience, this update—embracing Perp DEX and publicly announcing a token launch—marks just the first step in MetaMask’s transformation. This points program could very well trigger another major airdrop event in the crypto market.
