Is Jupiter's second airdrop coming? Here's a roundup of the existing clues
Founder预告 this morning: "Major announcement coming soon."
Author: Azuma, Odaily Planet Daily
In the early hours of November 4, meow, founder of Jupiter, responded on X regarding questions about his personal and team's financial motivations. In the post, meow emphasized that he will remain fully committed to JUP for a long time and teased an upcoming major announcement.
Given the historical focus of the Jupiter community, this "major announcement" inevitably brings to mind the next round of token airdrops—something Jupiter vaguely hinted at during JUP’s genesis.
Will There Be Another Airdrop? How Many Tokens Remain?
One thing is certain: there will indeed be another airdrop.
Prior to JUP’s launch, meow published a detailed article outlining Jupiter’s airdrop plan, stating that JUP would be equally split between the team and the community (50% each). Within the community allocation, “40% of JUP supply will be distributed across four airdrop rounds.”

In January 2024, Jupiter launched its first airdrop event, Jupuary, distributing 10% of the total JUP supply to the community. According to the original plan, this meant that 30% of JUP (3 billion tokens) remained reserved for future airdrops.
However, in early August 2024, the Jupiter community passed J 4 J #1—the first major proposal on JUP allocation—with 95% approval. This proposal mandated the burning of 3 billion JUP tokens (30% of total supply) to reduce Jupiter’s maximum supply. The burn was to be shared equally by the team and the community, which led to adjustments in the amount allocated for future airdrops.
Meow detailed these changes in the proposal. As shown in the image below (orange indicates pre-burn figures, green post-burn), the “Subsequent Jupuaries” allocation decreased from 3 billion to 2.1 billion JUP—aligned with the overall 30% supply reduction.

In summary, 2.1 billion JUP tokens remain allocated for future airdrops. It’s also worth noting that, based on the chart above and multiple prior statements from the team, Jupiter still intends to refer to future airdrop events as “Jupuary”—a portmanteau of “Jupiter” and “January,” the month of the first airdrop. Hence, the community widely speculates that subsequent airdrops will likely occur annually in January.
Founder’s Statements
Over the past few months, meow has repeatedly discussed matters related to the next Jupuary in public forums, offering subtle hints along the way.
On March 21, meow mentioned that the next Jupuary would feature significantly different criteria, and that the community would lead discussions around it. He noted that discussions for the first Jupuary began in November 2023 (with execution taking three months), and that the Core Working Group (CWG) would drive the planning for the next round.

On July 1, meow responded to the community expressing his desire for the next Jupuary to become a community-driven initiative rather than being dictated by his personal preferences. He mentioned that voting would take place in the coming weeks—though this has since been delayed.

On October 9, meow commented on the snapshot criteria for the next Jupuary: “The snapshot might come later, possibly by year-end. Not confirmed yet.”

On the same day, meow also posted: “Regardless, do not use Jupiter solely for airdrop farming. Jupiter is built for real users. Go interact with other projects. We have never needed, and will never need, ‘users’ driven purely by airdrop incentives. If Jupuary happens again, it will be a gift from the community to real users.”

From meow’s repeated statements, it’s clear he favors a community-led process to determine the feasibility and specifics of the next Jupuary, with expectations pointing toward late this year.
Community Response
If you visit Jupiter’s governance forum, it’s evident that nearly all top discussions revolve around the second airdrop. Many community members—including well-known individuals and institutions—have even proposed their own detailed airdrop plans.

Taking the most discussed post as an example (authored by Solana developer Zandor, who clearly states he is unaffiliated with the Jupiter team; the proposed distribution is his personal suggestion, not final policy), Zandor recommends distributing approximately 700 million JUP in the second Jupuary—roughly one-third of the remaining 2.1 billion tokens.
Zandor suggests splitting the distribution into two parts. The first part is a broad-based airdrop, allocating 250 million JUP to genuine users across Jupiter’s various products—including JUP stakers, spot traders, derivatives traders, JLP liquidity providers, and other contributors. The second part is an advanced tiered reward system: after “de-watering” trading volume to filter out bots and sybil activity, users are rewarded proportionally based on verified real trading volume, totaling 450 million JUP.
Odaily Note: The above distribution is solely Zandor’s personal recommendation and not the final standard.
Zandor’s proposal has gained significant support within the community, though some members have voiced opposition to volume-based allocations. Discussions remain ongoing.
Waiting for Official Announcement
Considering current developments, it’s reasonable to anticipate that Jupiter will likely move forward with preparations for the second airdrop within the coming months. As the most successful project in the Solana ecosystem to date—and given the positive reception of the first Jupuary—users once again have room to dream.
However, it’s important to note that Jupiter has not yet officially confirmed any details regarding the second airdrop. Final decisions await official communication. Meanwhile, phishing scams related to a potential Jupiter second airdrop have already surfaced on social media—exercise caution at all times.
