To date, there are over 6 million active addresses on zkSync (even if only considering actively interacting addresses on zkSync Era). Leading ZK-based L2 projects like Starknet have already implemented token airdrops, rewarding approximately 500,000 unique users. How then might zkSync approach its own airdrop?

Simulating Starknet's Token Distribution

In addition to requiring a minimum balance of 0.005 ETH, the Starknet Foundation’s token distribution criteria include the following conditions:

• Active in at least three different months;

• At least six interactions completed;

• Total transaction volume of no less than $100;

We applied these three rules to active addresses on zkSync Era, simulating two airdrop scenarios using varying parameters.

Plan A: Filters for 2.78 million qualifying addresses:

• Active in at least four different months;

• At least ten interactions completed;

• Total transaction volume of no less than $100;

Plan B: Filters for 2.05 million qualifying addresses:

• Active in at least four different months;

• At least thirty interactions completed;

• Total transaction volume of no less than $500;

Ranking the Top 500,000 Addresses

Following the Starknet Foundation's model—rewarding 500,000 independent user addresses (excluding developers and others)—we analyzed on-chain address metrics such as assets, engagement, diversity, identity, and duration of use. Based on this composite scoring system, we identified address 0xe175681e0690f252b09bcb0ae92de7428232b975 as the 500,006th-ranked address.

Performance of the 500,006th Address

This address actually performs exceptionally well. Below are some standout metrics:

MEDIA-Based Interaction Behavior Analysis

About 2.9 million (46%) of all addresses exceed the passing threshold (60 points). Note from Foresight News: MEDIA score is proportional to "duration of use" (i.e., days since first use of zkSync Era), meaning longer usage leads to higher MEDIA scores.

Cross-Chain Amount Distribution

There are 2,265,883 addresses that bridged funds from the Ethereum mainnet via the official bridge. We calculated the cross-chain amount distribution for these addresses based on major token values.

Fund Interaction Amount Distribution

There are 5,831,239 interactive addresses on zkSync Era. We calculated their interaction amount distribution based on major token values.

It can be seen that only a small fraction of addresses have interaction amounts below $100.

Active Months Statistics

zkSync Era has 6,192,010 active interacting addresses. According to their activity across months, we found that 52% of users have interacted with zkSync for more than three months.

Primary Active Month Range

Statistically, we find that nearly 4 million accounts have conducted more than 10 transactions. Categorizing these accounts by active months, we observe that most fall within the 3-to-10-month range.

Number of Interacted Contracts

Currently, 4,969,711 addresses have performed contract interactions on zkSync Era, with the majority having interacted with more than five contracts.

MEDIA Score for zkSync Lite Users

There are 1,864,953 addresses with interaction records on zkSync Lite. Their MEDIA scores are similarly proportional to their "Lite usage duration" (i.e., days since first use of zkSync Lite).

Paymaster Analysis

Paymaster is a unique advantage of zkSync Era, enabling users to pay gas fees using tokens other than ETH, which offers greater convenience for many users.

According to statistics, 765,898 addresses on zkSync Era have used the Paymaster feature. The vast majority of these addresses have MEDIA scores above 50, with a significant proportion scoring above 80.

Analysis of zkSync Exclusive NFTs

The LIBERTAS OMNIBUS COLLECTION NFT drop was once highly popular within the community. Currently, 124,112 addresses hold LIBERTAS OMNIBUS COLLECTION NFTs. The chart below compares the MEDIA score distributions between holders and non-holders.
