Solana Foundation launches ninth "Renaissance" hackathon
"Renaissance" is an online competition designed to provide a competitive platform for the next generation of developers on the Solana network. Participants can register to compete for over $1 million in prize money and seed investment.
The Solana Foundation today announced the launch of the "Renaissance" hackathon, now open for registration on the Colosseum platform. As the ninth hackathon hosted by the Solana Foundation, "Renaissance" is an online competition designed to provide a competitive stage for the next generation of developers building on the Solana network. The hackathon will run from March 4, 2024, through April 8, 2024.
Participants in the "Renaissance" hackathon can use the Colosseum online platform to create developer profiles, find teammates, exchange new ideas, explore this edition’s tracks, and register to compete for over $1 million in prizes and seed funding.
Over the past year, the Solana network has gained strong momentum due to relentless innovation from developers within its ecosystem. These innovators have established Solana as the platform of choice across payments, consumer applications, gaming, social, and DePIN. From solutions enabling merchants to accept USDC payments with near-instant settlement and low fees, to a wave of novel applications emerging beyond DeFi, Solana’s developers have significantly diversified the landscape of web3 applications.
"Hackathons play a crucial role in Solana’s continued growth, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration," said Dan Albert, Executive Director of the Solana Foundation. "These events empower developers to build meaningful solutions that disrupt industries, solve real-world problems, and create practical applications only possible on Solana."
To further encourage exploration of new use cases on Solana, the Renaissance online hackathon focuses on six key areas:
· DeFi & Payments hosted by Orca
· Consumer Apps hosted by Solana Mobile
· DePIN hosted by IO.NET
· Gaming hosted by Phantom
· DAOs & Startup Communities hosted by Squads
· Infrastructure hosted by Pyth
The top project will receive the Grand Prize awarded by Symmetry, including $50,000 in USDC and tickets to Solana Foundation's annual conference, Breakpoint 2024. Additionally, three special awards will be presented: Best Project for Public Good, Best Climate-Related Project, and Best Project Founded by College Students. Hackathon winners will also gain access to Colosseum’s accelerator program and an opportunity to receive $250,000 in seed investment.
"We’re thrilled to host the next Solana Foundation hackathon on Colosseum," said Matty Taylor, co-founder of Colosseum. "Following the success of Hyperdrive, the Solana developer community is more vibrant than ever. We’re honored to support them at such a pivotal stage in their journey. We look forward to partnering with the Solana Foundation and many other contributors across the Solana ecosystem to continue encouraging experimentation, entrepreneurial innovation, and solving real-world challenges."
The previous Solana Foundation hackathon—Hyperdrive—held at the end of 2023, attracted over 7,000 participants and more than 900 project submissions.
