TechFlow News, June 27: According to media reports, Paul Meade will leave Apple next week and join OpenAI’s hardware division to lead the development of future AI hardware products.
Meade spent 16 years at Apple, contributing to the iPad and iPhone projects. He joined Apple’s Vision Products Group (VPG) in 2017, where he led hardware development for the Vision Pro headset and smart glasses. Since 2019, he has served as the overall head of hardware engineering.
Reports indicate that, following the Vision Pro’s underwhelming market performance, Apple has gradually shifted its hardware R&D focus toward smart glasses. Meanwhile, the company recently restructured its hardware division—dissolving the VPG and adjusting its management structure—factors widely seen as contributing to Meade’s departure.
