TechFlow News, June 19: According to Decrypt, Amazon has decided to pull the biographical film *Artificial*, about OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The film was originally slated for release by Amazon MGM Studios and is nearly complete in production. However, after executives overseeing Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios viewed the finished cut, they opted not to move forward with its release and have instead handed the film over to other studios to seek distribution.
Reports indicate that early drafts of the screenplay portrayed Sam Altman in a largely negative light, depicting him in certain scenes as highly competitive and manipulative. Sources familiar with the matter say that, as production progressed, the final version’s overall tone grew significantly darker than originally envisioned—this shift became one of the key reasons behind Amazon’s decision to halt distribution. Moreover, this adjustment comes shortly after Amazon committed approximately $50 billion to OpenAI; the two companies’ extensive commercial partnership and strategic alignment in the AI field further heighten the sensitivity surrounding a film that delves into internal power dynamics at OpenAI.
