Hyperliquid Opens Prediction Market Deployment: Stake $30 Million HYPE Tokens, Up to 50% Fee Share
Replace licenses with real money, letting the market rather than the platform decide who survives.

TechFlow Insights: Hyperliquid just proved itself in June with $50 billion in prediction market volume, now directly opening this business to everyone—as long as you dare to stake $30 million. This is typical crypto gameplay: using real money to replace licenses, letting the market rather than the platform decide who survives.
Hyperliquid is turning prediction markets into a business anyone can participate in.
The exchange stated that subsequent enhancements to its recent HIP-4 upgrade will allow anyone to deploy prediction markets on the platform. HIP-4 introduced "outcome trading" features in May, but currently these markets are fully controlled by validators. Hyperliquid stated that in the future, "ideally" fewer than 10 markets per year will be run by validators, with the rest open to everyone. This feature will launch on testnet first, then on mainnet.
Anyone wanting to launch a market must stake 500,000 HYPE (approximately $30 million), a serious margin that could be slashed if validators determine the market is ill-defined or settled incorrectly. In exchange, deployers can earn up to 50% of the trading fees from that market. This matches the economic design of its permissionless perpetual contracts: put up real money, make money if the market is done well, lose the stake if done poorly. This is completely different from the model of Polymarket and Kalshi, where every market is defined top-down by the platform.
This is a timely move, as prediction markets have just gone through the hottest summer in history. The World Cup helped the industry reach $50 billion in betting volume in June, and July is currently on track to be even higher ($37 billion so far). Of this $50 billion, Kalshi is the clear market leader, accounting for $33 billion (66% market share). Hyperliquid only did $176 million—so they have a long way to go to make substantial progress in this field.
Hyperliquid's answer is to open-source this category, turning prediction markets into another piece of permissionless infrastructure rather than a curated product. But they are not a platform to be underestimated; Hyperliquid is already breaking DEX volume records, sparking JPMorgan warnings about its threat to Circle, and simultaneously lobbying the SEC and CFTC. If the permissionless model works, it could help them truly make waves. We will know the answer soon.
