U.S. June unadjusted core CPI annual rate at 2.9%, seasonally adjusted monthly CPI rate at 0.30%

According to Jinshi Data, the U.S. June unadjusted core CPI annual rate was 2.9%, compared to an expected 3.00% and a previous value of 2.80%.

Fed Whisperer: Today's CPI report won't change Fed policy direction

According to Jinshi Data, "Fed Whisperer" Nick Timiraos recently wrote: "June's inflation data may keep Fed officials cautious. Policymakers who predicted tariffs would trigger more significant price pressures later this year may see little reason to change that view after June's figures—especially if retailers delay price adjustments as much as possible. June's data only makes the upcoming July and August reports more important. Similarly, those who believe tariffs won't spark significant inflation (because corporate pricing power is insufficient to sustain higher inflation) also have little reason to alter their views after Tuesday’s report." In recent weeks, Fed Chair Powell has indicated the threshold for rate cuts may be slightly lower than in the spring. This shift reflects an assessment that inflation risks may take longer to emerge and thus have a relatively weaker impact. If the Fed maintains its expectation that inflation acceleration won't be too severe, Powell could potentially open the door to rate cuts as early as September, depending on labor market softening or improved inflation data.
