Protocol valuation of $1 billion: Top 10 premium channels in the Farcaster ecosystem
Posting and posting in big channels, maybe tons of airdrops will arrive at your door tomorrow.
Author: Wenser, Odaily Planet Daily
In May, the decentralized social protocol Farcaster announced a $150 million funding round led by Paradigm, with participation from a16z crypto, Haun, USV, Variant, Standard Crypto, and others, achieving a valuation of up to $1 billion and entering the ranks of "unicorns." On July 2, the protocol's total revenue surpassed $2 million, while its user base exceeded 570,000. Today, Farcaster is undoubtedly the hottest social protocol in the crypto industry. According to sources, “Like most protocols, Farcaster is expected to launch a token, and investors will be eager to capture its fully diluted valuation.”
Previously, in our article “Understanding Spectral: The On-Chain AI Agent That Raised $30 Million and Airdropped 8 Million Tokens,” we mentioned that active Farcaster users (defined as those with 10+ likes, 10+ followers, 10+ posts, and 10–200 interactive connections) are also eligible for airdrops. Thus, maintaining activity in quality channels may significantly boost chances for future token airdrops.
Odaily Planet Daily presents an overview of the top 10 high-quality channels within the Farcaster ecosystem for readers’ reference, drawing comparisons with mature platforms to illustrate its growth potential.
Channel Decentralization: Each Channel as a "Decentralized World"
On May 18 this year, Farcaster co-founder Dan Romero stated, “We’re decentralizing Farcaster channels. Different channels will operate independently on-chain, similar to user accounts. If you build a community channel, membership decisions rest with you—not a centralized platform. Moreover, the protocol version for channels will give creators flexible control over ownership, governance, and economic models. We aim to fully decentralize channels by the end of summer—no longer dependent on the Warpcast client.”
Perhaps due to his background at Coinbase, Dan may have long harbored reservations about centralized platforms, leading him to proactively avoid the “centralization trap” in his own venture. The diversity of Farcaster clients stands out among social protocols—ranging from semi-official apps like Warpcast and early ecosystem tools such as Supercast and Kiosk, to more international or structured platforms like Phaver and Firefly App, even including independent developer projects like Recaster.
In Dan’s vision, the triad of “ownership-governance-economy” functions like modular LEGO bricks, where different components establish stability and circulation for a channel’s “permissions-content-economic elements,” thereby conferring a degree of “antifragility.”

Farcaster co-founder Dan Romero’s vision for decentralized channels
Additionally, Dan previously responded to user feedback about wanting Warpcast to serve beyond English speakers: “Warpcast is a U.S.-based team without plans for international expansion. We believe we can build an excellent client for English users but currently lack the bandwidth to properly support global audiences.”
Therefore, there remains immense room for growth in both the Farcaster protocol and localized clients. Without further ado, here are what I consider the top 10 high-quality channels in the Farcaster ecosystem—ideal not only for “content farming” but also for building your own “industry reputation.”
1./base
Address: https://warpcast.com/~/channel/base
Followers: 360,000
Posting threshold: 840 Wraps
As the flagship project driving Base’s “Onchain Summer,” the /base channel stands out within the Farcaster ecosystem for having the highest engagement, strongest cohesion, and most vibrant builder culture. Backed by prominent figures such as Jesse Pollak (Base protocol lead), Dan Romero (Farcaster co-founder), and Brian Armstrong (Coinbase CEO), posting in this channel comes with a notably high barrier: users must pay 8.4 USD worth of Wraps (Warpcast’s platform currency used for tipping or premium features) to cast (post).
Here, you can share anything related to the Base ecosystem—a meme coin project, thoughts or suggestions on Base’s development, or a free mint NFT. The Base community welcomes all builders to participate. Additionally, the /onchainsummer channel (around 12,000 followers) is another noteworthy Base-related space.

2./farcaster
Address: https://warpcast.com/~/channel/farcaster
Followers: 297,000
Posting threshold: None
As the official channel, /farcaster is one of the earliest established and maintains an open policy toward content. You can discuss any topic related to Farcaster here, and official team members—including Dan—regularly respond to posts in a calm and constructive manner. For example, a recent reply addressed user complaints about Warpcast with sincerity—offering a clear explanation of the user onboarding process and practical tips for gaining visibility and acceptance on the platform.

3./Memes
Address: https://warpcast.com/~/channel/memes
Followers: 318,000
Posting threshold: None
As the “greatest common denominator of human culture,” memes play a vital role in attraction and communication. Like forums such as Reddit and 4chan, the /memes channel is one of the most active on Farcaster. Here, you can share internet trends or so-called “shitposts.” What matters isn’t likes or comments, but rather sharing the vibe of an “online postmodern carnival” with fellow “internet family” members.

Channel introduction
4./degen
Address: https://warpcast.com/~/channel/degen
Followers: 92,000
Posting threshold: None
Degen is a classic “community meme” project, yet it extends far beyond just a meme coin. Although its X account launched in January, DEGEN has ridden the momentum of the Base ecosystem to become a native “transactional currency” within Farcaster. Notably, its collaboration with Web3 infrastructure Syndicate to launch Degen Chain exemplifies a “token-first chain” model. Official data revealed that DEGEN token holders surpassed 500,000 within six months—an astonishing achievement.
The /degen channel is a mixed bag—filled with shilling, promotions, but also a fair amount of valuable alpha. Hence, its description explicitly states: “Not investment advice.” High-quality content here often earns DEGEN token tips. It’s also worth noting that members from the /mfers channel (~17,500 followers) are highly active here, making it a great place for interaction.

5./ethereum

Followers: 256,000
Posting threshold: None
As a former “Ethereum loyalist,” I find it no surprise that Ethereum’s official Farcaster channel commands such a large following. Compared to the chaotic public discourse on X, niche channels on Farcaster have become rare hubs of activity for many “industry leaders,” “crypto OGs,” and well-known founders. Discussions cover a broad range of topics, making it ideal for those interested in technical or Ethereum ecosystem research.

6./founders
Address: https://warpcast.com/~/channel/founders
Followers: 161,000
Posting threshold: None
A channel even Farcaster co-founder Dan visits daily to maintain his streak, /founders brings together numerous project founders and co-founders. Even Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has posted here, praising the work of Farcaster’s two founders. Dan and Brian once hosted an AMA here, making it a strong platform for outreach and visibility.

Channel interface
7./crypto
Address: https://warpcast.com/~/channel/crypto
Followers: 8,700
Posting threshold: None
While smaller in follower count compared to earlier channels, /crypto remains noteworthy. With crypto’s growing influence, this channel maintains stricter moderation—its description clearly states: “General discussion about cryptocurrency—from use cases and technology to culture and philosophy. Spam about prices, charts, gambling, etc., will be hidden or banned. Please review the channel rules.”

Channel interface
8./fitness
Address: https://warpcast.com/~/channel/fitness
Followers: 92,000
Posting threshold: None
Fitness is an essential part of niche communities, attracting nearly 100,000 followers. This channel is also commonly frequented by bot accounts or “tip-seeking” posters—“e-beggars”—similar to /food (~86,000 followers) and /design (~178,000 followers).
As Dan noted, new users logging into Warpcast often see these channels recommended upon first login, helping them “integrate into the Farcaster ecosystem and conversation environment.”

Channel interface
9./nouns
Address: https://warpcast.com/~/channel/nouns
Followers: 72,000
Posting threshold: None
As a renowned cultural symbol in crypto, Nouns holds significant attention and reach within the Farcaster ecosystem. Despite the less-than-ideal outcome of Nouns DAO, discussions around its decentralized governance structure and the spirit of “freedom, openness, optimism, and crypto-punk” embodied by Nouns remain highly relevant. This is why you often see the iconic 👓 symbol appearing on landmarks or promotional materials.

10./Warpcast
Address: https://warpcast.com/~/channel/warpcast
Followers: 40,600
Posting threshold: None
Yes, even the official client Warpcast has its own channel—but it feels more like a “customer service forum.” Still, it serves as an additional feedback channel besides direct communication with Dan and V, the two Farcaster co-founders.

Conclusion: Strong User Concentration, Ecosystem Still Early
According to a data report from April this year, Reddit—the U.S.-based public company founded in 2005—has approximately 500 million users and over 100,000 active subreddits, with more than 500 exceeding 1 million subscribers. Its most popular subreddit, r/funny, boasts over 55 million subscribers.
By comparison, Farcaster—with just 570,000 total users—is still in its infancy. Active users are concentrated in a few major channels like /base and /farcaster, indicating the ecosystem is clearly in early stages. The internal economy supported by Wraps and DEGEN, along with the $5 app download fee, suggests Farcaster isn't yet ready for mass scaling.
Moreover, compared to Web2 users, Web3 users tend to have stronger payment intent—partly explaining how Farcaster generates over $2 million in protocol revenue from just hundreds of thousands of users.
When comparing Reddit and Farcaster side-by-side, the latter’s growth potential could be measured in multiples of thousands. This likely explains why marquee investors like Paradigm and a16z crypto are placing big bets on the “next-generation decentralized social赛道.”
Whether Farcaster can evolve into a global social application rivaling Reddit, X, Facebook, or Instagram remains to be seen—only time will tell.
