Goldman Sachs: China AI Developers May Shift to "Paid Weights" Commercial Licensing Model

TechFlow News, July 28, according to the South China Morning Post, Goldman Sachs stated that as the usage of Chinese AI models grows rapidly globally, Chinese AI developers may begin charging commercial licensing fees to cloud platforms in the future to host their open-weight models.

The report noted that the performance of Chinese models such as Moonshot AI Kimi K3 and Zhipu AI GLM-5.2 has approached top US competitors, but since Chinese companies typically release models under open-source terms, overseas platforms and developers can freely download, modify, and host their core "weights", prompting related companies to seek more revenue monetization methods.
