TechFlow News, June 21: U.S. President Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social stating that during a 60-day ceasefire period, no transit fees would be charged for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. After the 60-day period expires, no transit fees will be levied unless relevant agreements fail to materialize; in such a case, the United States—as the “guardian angel” of Middle Eastern countries—will determine and impose applicable fees to recoup costs incurred, or to be incurred, for past, present, and future services provided.
According to the U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding previously released by Iranian state media and U.S. officials, the clause concerning transit through the Strait of Hormuz explicitly states that Iran will make every effort to ensure commercial vessels can travel safely and freely between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman during the 60-day period. Following the expiration of this 60-day period, the management regime for the Strait of Hormuz will be established through dialogue between Iran and Oman, as well as consultations with other Persian Gulf littoral states.
