TechFlow News, June 7: From 2020 to April 2026, South Korea’s top five cryptocurrency exchanges experienced a total of 57 hacking incidents and system failures, resulting in cumulative compensation of approximately 7 billion KRW (about $5.1 million). Specifically, Bithumb paid out roughly 2.5 billion KRW following a Bitcoin misdisbursement incident in February 2026, while Upbit compensated approximately 790 million KRW after a hacking incident in November 2025. According to disclosed data, Upbit reported 26 incidents, Bithumb 14, Gopax 8, Coinone 6, and Korbit 3. The report notes that the criteria for counting incidents and the forms of compensation vary across exchanges.
